A holiday cottage means nobody's house, nobody's best carpet and nobody tidying up for days beforehand. At Lavender Cottage in Burstwick, the whole family arrives together, unpacks and starts Christmas on an equal footing.

The large kitchen has a central island, so cooking Christmas dinner becomes a team effort. Someone peels the sprouts, someone makes the gravy. The kitchen opens onto a light-filled dining area and a spacious lounge, so the cooks stay part of the conversation. A proper bed for everyone

Lavender Cottage has six spacious double bedrooms and four bathrooms, two of them en-suite. That means no sofa beds and no long queue for the shower on Christmas morning. Three bedrooms are on the ground floor, so grandparents and anyone less keen on stairs are well looked after. Upstairs gives parents with little ones a bit of their own space.

Boxing Day sorted

Once the presents are open and the turkey's gone, head to the games room. It has a pool table, table football, a TV and a bar area, which is ideal for a family tournament with bragging rights on the line. Later, relax in the private hot tub under a crisp winter sky while the dishwasher does the washing up.

When you want some fresh air, Withernsea beach is just 15 minutes' drive away. A blustery Boxing Day walk along the seafront or maybe you're brave enough to take part in the Boxing Day Dip! The historic market town of Hedon and the city of Hull are close by too.

Easy for everyone to get there

With parking for eight or more cars, each household can travel in its own car and head off whenever suits them, with no squeezing onto the drive. Split between several families, the cost can also compare well with hotel rooms, and you get far more space.
